Demovictions are displacing hundreds of families, and over 400 affordable apartments in Surrey are at risk of being replaced by luxury condos in working-class neighbourhoods. ACORN is calling on the provincial government to enact anti-demoviction protections so families aren’t uprooted by mass redevelopment.

Many strategies must be implemented simultaneously to address housing needs, including an increase in housing supply, rental assistance, rent regulations, wrap-around supports, and regulatory measures that put an end to the financialization of housing. The Social Housing and Human Rights coalition emphasizes the urgent need for the expansion and maintenance of non-market social housing supply affordable to those in greatest need.
