How would you like to be a leader of social change? Or know someone that would make a great candidate?
Next Up, a leadership program committed to social and environmental justice, is offering that opportunity to young people between the ages of 18 and 32. Applications are now being accepted in B.C. until Sept. 19. More information below:
Next Up was created by a community of people who wanted to help emerging leaders develop new and better skills, smarts and ideas. The program is intense. Over seven months, we’ll dive into a number of topics and disciplines, combining theory, practice, deep thinking, and hard skills. We’ll look at some of the most pressing Canadian policy issues, with a focus this year on climate change. We will consider where “progressive” thinking is on these issues and how to solve them. We’ll look at how change is made in society. And we’ll meet some of the most innovative change-makers in the province — from the non-profit, labour, business and public sectors — who are working for a better world.
The program is offered in five cities across four provinces: Next Up BC in Vancouver, Next Up Edmonton, Next Up Calgary, Next Up Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, and Next Up Ottawa – so please forward this call to your friends and colleagues in those regions. In each province, an impressive group of young people will be selected.
The application deadline for Next Up BC is September 19, 2014 (deadlines vary for each province). The program runs between October 2014 and May 2015.
Please forward this call far and wide — to individuals, organizations, institutions and your progressive networks. And in particular, take a few minutes to think about young people you know for whom this would be a great experience, and send them the notice. Thank you in advance for helping us find fabulous young leaders for Next Up 2014/15 — you’ll be thankful you did years from now!
