National Family Week 2014 ad

It’s almost time for National Family Week again, happening from Oct. 6 to 12. The theme this year is: Families and Finances — it just adds up!

Various groups around the city are planning two events. See below.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, 5 to 9:30 p.m. — Family fun night (admission by referral from food bank only)

Location: Richmond Cultural Centre and Richmond Public Library Brighouse

An event where families can connect with community service providers and financial advisors. Participate in activity stations, catch a magician act, have dinner and take in a movie (in the Cultural Centre performance hall). Tickets will be given through the Richmond Food Bank, Touchstone Family Association, Richmond Family place and Richmond Addiction Services Society to target at risk/needy families.

How organizations can be involved: send one of your staff to mingle with families between  5 and 7 p.m. to let them know about your services and/or set up an information booth. (Contact Marcia MacKenzie at mmackenzie@volunteerrichmond.ca if you are interested)

Thursday, Oct. 9 — Financial literacy workshop for families (open to the public)

7 p.m. — community booths

7:30 p.m. — workshop

Location: Richmond Public Library Brighouse Kids’ Place Program Room

Parents can attend the workshop while childminders take care of kids (will be arranged by Marie Thom from StrongStart)
