There is a scholarship provided each year in her name by the Richmond Community Foundation to a woman, for the purposes of providing education and opportunities to improve the lives of the successful applicant and her family. See below for more information on how to apply.
Ethel Tibbits Scholarship
The Richmond Community Foundation holds an endowment fund set up by the Richmond Review to honour the work and life of Ethel Tibbits, a newspaper pioneer and women’s rights activist. This fund provides an annual scholarship to a woman to take educational courses that will prepare her for opportunities that will improve the lives of the applicant and her family. Scholarships are available to women who have been Richmond residents for at least one year, have financial need and require training to enter the workforce or upgrade skills to improve their ability to support themselves and their families.
Applicants are to submit a letter stating why they are applying for the scholarship, their needs, career goals, future plans, academic achievement, volunteer activities and details of employment, if any. Applicants must also submit two letters of reference outlining their personal character, family situation, and suitability to engage in the career for which their course of study will prepare them. Scholarship awards may be used for tuition fees and other course requirements such as text books, software, equipment or tools.
