Committee Meeting

STEERING COMMITTEE

The RPRC Steering Committee has sustained a community building process since 2000, by engaging residents and organizations in collaborative efforts to strengthen and improve conditions of poverty in Richmond. The Steering Committee oversees the development and implementation of all projects and determines budgets and contracts staff time to support committee activities. A priority of the committee is to empower community volunteers to take leadership and explore advocacy positions to support people living in poverty.

The Steering committee has two volunteer co-chairs. Committee members give 900 hours of volunteer time each year to strategy and planning meetings as well as hands-on work in poverty-reduction activities.

As gaps in services are identified, Task Forces are struck to work towards finding solutions. These Task Forces focus on specific areas of activity and projects whose progress is reported at monthly Steering Committee meetings. Food Security, Affordable and Accessible Housing, and Transportation are standing committees. Other task forces have formed and disbanded as projects are completed. The Executive Committee, consisting of the co-chairs of the steering committee and chairs of the Task Forces, meets as needed to review the progress of planning and activities, budgets, and contracts with funders and support staff. Decisions are reached by consensus.

Current task forces are:

Food Security
Affordable Housing
Transportation
