On Jan. 14 of this year, the Richmond municipal government officially endorsed the ABC Plan to reduce poverty, following a presentation by Theresa Head, Richmond Advocacy & Support Committee (RASC) member. In a letter to B.C. Premier John Horgan, Mayor Malcolm Brodie states the following:
“While recognizing the challenges of implementing such an ambitious plan, strong measures are required to stem the increasing inequality manifest in our society. On March 1, join Autistics United Canada and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network in remembering people with disabilities who were victims of violent crime. The candlelight vigil begins at 5 p.m. at Woodlands Memorial Garden in New Westminster. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Share your experiences about what it’s like to live in the city, and whether you’ve encountered any day-to-day barriers or issues. The goal is to come up with solutions to create a sense of community for all individuals.

Our project, called  “Communities Mobilizing for Justice-Addressing Poverty through Dialogue to Action”  has created a space for lived experience experts (the Richmond Advocacy and Support Committee) to learn and practice speaking out on issues that affect them daily. Join YVR food and beverage workers to let management know that workers’ need a $15 minimum wage now — not in four years as the province has committed to — and job retention for all YVR contracted workers. Other major western seaboard city airports such as Seattle and San Francisco already have living wage policies in place.
